While on the run from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), cryptocurrency advocate and influencer John McAfee is campaigning for the 2020 United States presidential elections.
Who is John McAfee?
John McAfee, founder of McAfee associates (behind the famed McAfee antivirus software), is a popular influencer in the cryptocurrency space. Perhaps one of his most famous endeavors included his paid crypto asset tweets.
According to an article from The Verge, McAfee charged fees of $105,000 per tweet for crypto promotions. These Tweets often significantly impacted the market price of whatever asset he mentioned.
Additionally, McAfee is also famous in the crypto space for his bitcoin price prediction. He boldly affirmed that crypto’s largest asset will reach $1 million dollars by the year 2020.
McAfee is currently campaigning for the 2020 U.S. presidential elections and, according to his website, seeks the nomination of the Libertarian Party. As stipulated on his official webpage, McAfee has based his efforts on the idea that the current government no longer operates as it should.
My campaign platform contains one item: how do we free ourselves from a government that no longer serves us, but instead has become our master – controlling our every action, down to the detail of what we may or may not put into our bodies and minds.”
Cryptocurrency will be a significant talking point in McAfee’s campaign. “We believe that cryptocurrency offers a unique historical opportunity to the individual – a chance to liberate one’s self, without violence, and to become more free” McAfee posited on the tenth point of his platform.
On the run
On January 22, while on a boat, John McAfee posted a video on Twitter stating he was on the run from government authorities. “Today, January 22, the IRS has convened a grand jury in the state of Tennessee to charge myself, my wife Mrs. McAfee, four of my campaign workers, with unspecified IRS crimes of a felonious nature“, he explained.
I have not paid taxes for eight years. I’ve made no secret of it. I have not filed returns. Every year I tell the IRS I’m not filing a return, I have no intention of doing so, come and find me.”
McAfee said he will continue to run his campaign on the “Freedom Boat”, fighting for the crypto space. “Today, crypto community, we are at war, and I am on the front lines” he said.
The "Freedom Boat" survived a stormy night at sea and lost an engine. We reached safety, and brought with us a symbol of freedom recognized around the world. I want to restore that symbol to a position of reality once again. pic.twitter.com/LqMJr9H7PN

On January 24, McAfee also tweeted an interesting comment from influencer Tommy Mustache on the topic of income tax reporting from big-name companies.
According to CBS news, there were 9 profitable companies that paid $0 in Federal Income Taxes for 8 years (2008 – 2015). These 9 companies made $19.9 Billion in net income and paid $0 in Federal Income Taxes.”
